Hexagons

DSCN0386

A few people have been blogging about paper piecing with hexagons this week. I know I'm not widely read, but I figured I'd chime in with a tip of my own, since I recently finished my full-sized quilt top made of 3" hexagons.

Instead of cutting your paper pieces, purchase them from Paperpieces.com. They use a die-cutter and heavy card stock to cut their paper pieces. You can order all different sizes, all different shapes, and all different amounts.  Their customer service is great and they have super-fast shipping.

The great thing is, you can reuse your shapes since they are cut from such heavy paper. I ordered a package of 300 3" hexagons and spent around $20. This was plenty of hexagons and I still have them for the next quilt!

Quilter's Obsession

Gotta tell ya.

Quilter's Obsession is the best website I have ever ordered from, hands down. Debbie provided awesome customer service over email and I received my package TODAY. Yeah. I ordered it on Friday (I think). Holy Hell, that was fast.

I will definitely order from there in the future and highly encourage you to do the same.

Unfortunately, the fabric was not the one I was looking for.

Starting this month (wow, it's already November), I will be blogging with Crystal of Sonnet of the Moon on a special project dedicated completely to traditional quilting. We'll post tutorials and inspiration each week, along with musing on color, fabric, and what makes a quilt modern.

If you quilt along with us, you'll have a gorgeous modern sampler of traditional quilt blocks at the end.

Come on, you know you need another unfinished project.

Coats and Clark Thread

I've been piecing with this great Coats and Clark Hand Quilting Thread. It's awesome. The glace' finish is really nice-- the thread glides so smoothly. I like it even better than my waxed thread (and I like that thread a lot)!

Halloween (again!)

I cruised by Martha Stewart's Halloween Central to find all sorts of awesome templates for crafts, including the best spiderweb templates ever (found in the Glittered Spiderweb Hurricanes How-To).

As usual, the photography of all the Halloween decorations is beautiful, and the projects Martha has created are just absolutely wonderful.

Extreme Closeup

Extreme Closeup

I marked the quilt top today. I used the largest circle template from Bigger Perfect Circles and it was perfect!

By the way, if you don't have a Sewline Ceramic Pencil, you need to get one. They are so awesome for marking fabric. Pink is my favorite. Read about them in this PDF from United Notions. (No, I am not working for them!)
